Two questions will be disappearing from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). . . but not just yet.
The answers don’t matter anymore for financial aid eligibility, but some students will still have questions about Selective Service registration and drug convictions on the 2022-23 FAFSA, available on October 1, 2021.
Legislation approved in 2020 removed these questions as part of the determination of financial aid eligibility. The Department of Education did not have time to remove the questions from 2022-23 FAFSA, but the wording will be changed to remove any indication that the answers will impact financial aid eligibility.
Male students must still register with the Selective Service, but that registration does not impact financial aid eligibility and drug convictions will no longer prohibit a student from receiving federal financial aid.
