To make the most of college opportunities and resources, students and parents should have the most up-to-date information possible when it comes planning and paying for postsecondary education.
South Dakota high school students and their parents, educators and community members are invited to attend a special event at Northern State University on March 27 where they will receive valuable college planning information.
During the event, attendees will learn more about the new Northern Academy for dual-credit students and about upcoming changes to federal financial aid that will impact their college planning.
Eric Kline, director of the Northern Academy, will share information about this new on-campus academy for area students taking dual-credit courses. The Northern Academy early college experience is designed to improve the transition to college or technical school for juniors and seniors who meet academic requirements to take high school dual-credit (HSDC) courses. Northern Academy students take their dual-credit courses on campus to promote a sense of community/belonging with each other and Northern’s outstanding and engaging faculty.
Catherine Mueller, executive director of Mapping Your Future, will outline the planned changes to federal financial aid. Those changes will impact both how students and parents apply for federal financial aid and the calculation used to determining what amount of financial aid a student may be eligible to receive. By understanding these changes prior to implementation, students and parents will be better able to plan for postsecondary education.
The event will be held 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 27, at the Northern State University, Johnson Fine Arts Center, Berggren Recital Hall.
