Executive order allows flexibility for students pursuing scholarship

Students, who didn’t have the chance to take the ACT test due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will still be able to qualify for the South Dakota Opportunity Scholarship.

In late August, Governor Kristi Noem signed an executive order suspending requirements for Opportunity Scholarship applicants, who did not have a chance to take an ACT test this past spring or summer due to the pandemic.

Students now have the option to replace the ACT requirement with the equivalent or higher score from their SmarterBalanced test. The SmarterBalanced test is taken in the spring of the junior year of high school.

The temporary guidance for the Opportunity Scholarship (issued last spring due to the pandemic) has been updated to reflect the executive order.
