South Dakota Week of Work to benefit students and the state

Finding meaningful work that fulfills a need and serves others – it may be one of our main purposes in life.

South Dakota 10th grade students will have an opportunity to learn more about potential careers to fulfill that future purpose during the 2020 Week of Work.

Scheduled for April 20-24, the goal of the Week of Work is to introduce students to career opportunities in their communities through job shadows, industry tours, and other business-classroom connections.

According to a South Dakota State News release, “the week will provide employers opportunities to engage with youth and develop connections with the state’s future workforce.”

School counselors or administrators can learn more and register to participate at the South Dakota Week of Work website.

Schools with existing work-based learning programs are encouraged to use the week to celebrate the great work already underway by hosting activities like “signing days” for high school seniors to announce their chosen career paths or special recognitions of students who have completed internships or earned scholarships.

The South Dakota Week of Work is a partnership of the Department of Education, the Department of Labor and Regulation, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the South Dakota Retailers Association.
