Deadline near for students seeking Critical Teaching Needs scholarship

South Dakota students interested in applying for the Critical Teaching Needs Scholarship Program have just over a month to get their application in for priority consideration.

The Critical Teaching Needs Scholarship Program encourages South Dakota high school graduates to:

  • Obtain their postsecondary education in South Dakota
  • Remain in the state upon completion of their education
  • Contribute to the state of South Dakota and its citizens by working in a critical teaching need occupation

Students who apply for this scholarship need to agree to staying in South Dakota and working in a critical teaching need occupation for five years after graduating from a participating postsecondary institution. In addition. If the student fails to abide by the employment requirement, the scholarship will convert into an interest-bearing loan.

Current critical need occupations within a public, private, or parochial school include teaching:

  • K-12 special education
  • High school math or science
  • High school career or technical education
  • Secondary language arts
  • Secondary world language
  • English as a second language (ESL) or English Language Leaners

Students should study the application and requirements carefully before submitting the application.
